How to Add a Store Locator to Your BigCommerce Site

You can use a store locator app to add multiple locations to your website or mobile app and show your shoppers the location of your physical stores. BigCommerce store locators display helpful things like directions, location-specific information like hours, autocomplete addresses, and customizable map pins and markers.

Using Google Maps, there are two ways to do this, which we’ve outlined below (this can also be done on platforms like Shopify). And if you’re not using Google Maps, no worries as BigCommerce also integrates with other tools like Mapbox.

Option 1 – Embed your map

To embed your map with Storemapper, create a shortcode to copy and paste to your BigCommerce site. This video or the steps below show you how to do this.


Add a Google Map to your BigCommerce site with Storemapper by:

  1. Creating or logging into your Storemapper account. Sign up for a free 7-day trial with no credit card required, risk-free.
  2. Grabbing your embed code by:
  • Clicking on the “Embed Code” button in your dashboard.
  • Highlighting the text in the pop-up and copying it.
  1. Creating a new webpage in your BigCommerce admin area.
  2. Activating “HTML” and pasting in your code, then saving the page.

Option 2 – Use a Google Maps API key

Since your Google map is publicly available on your BigCommerce site, you’ll create your own account and API key linked to your map and site through Google.

To use a Google Maps API key with Storemapper, you’ll need to confirm whether your Storemapper account has a key added. To do so, login to your account and head to the Google Maps API key tab.

If you see an empty field, follow the steps below.

  1. Sign in/create your Google account.
  2. Find the Google Maps Platform site and select “Get Started”.
  3. In the new window, check the three boxes for enabling APIs. Hit “Continue”.
  4. You’ll be asked to create a project or select from existing projects. Select “+Create a new project” and enter an intuitive project name (e.g. “Storemapper locator”).
  5. Fill out the form and select “Agree and continue”.
  6. Click on “CREATE BILLING ACCOUNT” to enable billing. (99% of Storemapper clients fall under Google’s free map usage quota of about 10,000-15,000 monthly visits to their locator page, so there are usually no additional costs).
  7. Name your billing account, then hit “Continue”.
  8. Choose your country and currency in the new window and click “Confirm”.
  9. In the form, enter your business information and add a payment card.
  10. Create an API Key here, then click “Create credentials” > “API key”.
  11. Add HTTP restrictions so that your API key is limited to your site only. Within the Application restrictions section, choose “HTTP referrers”, then add these to “Website restrictions”:
  • Wrap your domain name with asterisks to place Storemapper on any subdomain/page under your domain with the API key: **
  • To browse Storemapper from your account dashboard’s Preview screen, add the storemapper domain as well: **
  • Use asterisks both at the beginning and end of the domain name.

12. Add the required API restrictions by selecting “Restrict key” in the API restrictions section and the “Select APIs’ dropdown. In the APIs list, select “Maps JavaScript API”, “Places API”, and “Geocoding API”.

13. Your key is now generated. Copy and add it to your Storemapper account by logging in and going to the Google Maps API key tab.

14. Paste in the API key to the Google Maps API Key field and select “Update API Key”.
